Call of Duty World Championship 2015: Event Preview

Uncategorized

The 2015 Call of Duty World Championship® presented by Xbox, is taking place in Los Angeles, California on March 27-29. Being the most important tournament of the year, teams from around the globe will be putting it all on the line for the astounding one million dollar prize pool and bragging rights to call themselves World Champions.

Location and Lodging

Similar to last year’s Call of Duty World Championship, the venue will be hosted at the Event Deck – LA LIVE at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA.

The event is a restricted venue, allowing only qualified teams and spectators 18+ years of age to attend and receive a ticket. If you haven’t booked already, seven hotels were provided and recommended by Major League Gaming.

Basic Information

This will be the first Call of Duty World Championship to offer spectating to the public. In the past, only invited guests were allowed at the events. Unfortunately, tickets on MLG’s website are completely sold out. There may possibly be a limited amount of tickets available at the venue itself, but a number hasn’t been announced. Age restrictions for this event will apply, and a form of valid photo identification will be required at the venue’s opening.

The Call of Duty World Championship is a qualified team-only tournament, allowing the top teams from each respected region. There will be a total of 32 teams competing at the event, starting off in Pool Play groups. The top two teams from each pool will advance respectively to the Double Elimination Playoff Upper and Lower Brackets.

In March 2014, Activision and MLG hosted last year’s Call of Duty World Championship® presented by Xbox at the same location. The former team known as compLexity Gaming, which consisted of: Patrick “ACHES” Price (now on FaZe Red), Ian “Crimsix” Porter (OpTic Gaming), Tyler “TeePee” Polchow (OpTic Nation), and Damon “Karma” Barlow (OpTic Nation) ended up being crowned world champions.

Pool Play Groups and Bracket Information

Seeding for the groups was determined by the Regional Final placements. For those who are unfamiliar with Pool Play, there will be eight groups of four teams competing. The top two teams from each pool will have a guaranteed spot into a 16 team Double Elimination Playoff bracket, while the bottom two teams are eliminated from the rest of the tournament. A loss in the Lower Bracket, will result in elimination from the tournament as well. All matches will be in a best-of-five series.

Pool Play Group and Bracket Information directly provided by Activision:

The top two teams from each group will advance to the bracket phase of the tournament and have an opportunity to claim their share of the $1 million dollar prize pool. Best of luck to all 32 competing teams!
